Our dogs Oliver and Emmie love their biothane Oliver & Ash collars, but sometimes a harness is just more convenient when we're taking them on and off leash. Their regular harnesses kept getting full of sand and soggy from our trips to the river so I knew we needed a biothane harness as well!

These harnesses are designed particularly for dogs who are in and out of the water, but they are wonderful harnesses perfect for neighborhood walks as well. Whether you’re out on the trail or walking in the city, you and your dog will love this beautiful harness! They are extremely lightweight and comfortable for your dog! You'll order a size based off their girth measurement, but the harness will be constructed to their exact measurements - making it a perfect fit no matter your dog's shape or size.

Choose your size based on your dog's girth (around the ribcage, behind the elbows) measurement:

XXS - 1/2" width - <15"

XS - 1/2" width - 15" to 20"

S - 5/8" width - 19" to 25"

M - 3/4" width - 24" to 31"

L - 1" width - 30" to 34"

XL - 1" width - 35"+

I’ve selected a width that I think will work best for your dog based on a basic measurement. Some sizes overlap in case you want to order down for a thinner width, or order up for a wider width. But because each harness is completely custom you can mix or match widths and colors to create the perfect harness for your pup.

Measurements you need to provide:

A) Chest/girth circumference (approx 1/2" behind your dog's elbow)

B) Full circle, behind and below collar. Give the measurement of the full circle (this is new as off November 2021!)

C) Center of chest to circumference line

D) Base of neck to circumference line - most dogs fall between 3” and 7” for this measurement!

I highly recommend putting a belt or similar item around your dog’s girth so that you measure to correct spot for C and D.

C should be longer than D

Measurement B should slide easily over your dog’s head - this is how big the harness opening will be! If this does not slide over your dog’s head, please contact me so we can work out a solution!

For no additional charge, you can add an additional d-ring on the chest (sits below the o-ring), and/or a black plastic side-release buckle (opposite the traditional buckle) for easy on and off (now available in all sizes, even 1/2"!). Our side-release buckles are high-quality and durable and we have never had an issue with them on our collars or harnesses. That said, please use your best judgement about using a quick-release on your harness. Does your dog lunge and try to attack others? Using a traditional buckle only would be the safest. Normal excitement and pulling on the harness should not be a cause for concern with the use of a quick-release buckle! Now for Large or XL harnesses (1” biothane), you can purchase a tactical strength COBRA buckle!

Stainless Steel – the ultimate in tough
Solid Brass – may patina over time, will not chip or rust, may leave gray marks on light-colored fur
Matte Black – extra durable PVD finish, resists chipping and scratching, but may wear off over time

FAQ

I’m not sure of my measurements! How do I know if they’re accurate?

Please feel free to email me a photo of your dog from the side as well as your measurements. I am happy to let you know if I think you’re on the right track. If something isn’t fitting quite right after you receive the harness, just reach out - making adjustments usually only costs about $5 plus return shipping. Email jessica@oliverandashdesigns.com

Will the harness shift?

It’s normal for the harness to shift slightly - it doesn’t have as much surface area across the chest as a wider fabric harness and the weight of your bolt snap may be pulling it off to one side slightly. However, if your harness is twisting all the way to the side, your measurements might be off. Send me a photo and I’ll help you work out a solution!

My dog has sensitive skin/thin hair/a bald belly - will this harness rub and chafe?

We haven’t had any clients report an issue with this! For all collars and harnesses, the cut end of the biothane is folded to the inside (against the dog’s skin) for a clean, finished look. If you’re worried about irritation, just leave me a note on your order that says “cut ends folded outside” and I’ll know what you mean! Hairless dogs have worn our designs with no problems!

All cut ends are finished with BioSeal - a pet-safe, non-toxic sealant that bonds the interior webbing together - which prevents fluid absorption into the interior webbing and prevents fraying!

Cleaning:
The bolt snap on your leash may may marks on your collar or harness - but good news! - biothane is one of the easiest products to clean! Dirt, mud, and all kinds of muck wipe off easily.
